good evening, i am able to save the sessions,
next i have opened the saved session, and added few annotations & Markings.
next when i open again the same file, i could not find the what annotations & markings i kept.
please help me how to keep the annotations & markings kept permanent untill i delete.
Hi @NGS - The Joulescope UI allows you to record and open files. We don’t use the term “Session” as the UI has View support rather than sessions.
When you use the Waveform widget with live data and Export by right clicking on a plot or dual markers, it exports all Annotations, too.
If you open a JLS file, you can add annotations using the Waveform widget. To save them, right-click on the plot, then select Annotations → Save.
If you close the JLS file and then open it again, you will see the same annotations.

thank you for the correction for the name i used for the UI file,
now iam able to save the annotations on UI file.
Can i edit/customise the font and the parameters which are displayed on the UI file.
Hi @NGS - yes, you can customize the Waveform widget display in the Joulescope UI. You can edit these settings for either the current Waveform widget or future Waveform widgets. Note that the UI uses entirely different configurations for when you open the Joulescope UI or open the Joulescope UI with a file, usually by double-clicking on the JLS file.
To adjust the current Waveform widget, right click on an open area of the plot and click Settings. Then drag the quantities you want to hide from the Selected column to the Available column.
You can select the Colors and Fonts tabs to customize those.
To configure future Waveform widgets, open the UI normally or by double-clicking on a JLS file, depending on which configuration you want to adjust. For normal, select Widgets → Settings. For JLS file, select File → Settings. Select Widgets → Waveform. Then adjust quantities. Unfortunately, you cannot adjust the default colors or fonts this way.

This behavior is expected. The annotation save DOES NOT include the styling applied to the the Waveform widget. The UI saves the Waveform widget styling along with the UI configuration. The UI has one configuration for “normal” operation and one for “open file” operation, usually invoked by double-clicking a JLS file in Windows File Explorer. Unfortunately, styles are not saved for the default Waveform widget, only specific instances. Due to how the “open file” works today, you cannot save Waveform widget style across invocations.
We have no easy way to change this behavior, and no plans to implement any improvements to make this behavior possible.
As you noted, the annotations do not support newlines. We have no plans to add newline support as we strongly encourage you to keep these text annotation messages short.
We find that many customers want to label the same events over and over in different captures. For this, we recommend using different annotation shapes and keeping a key. You can then include this key in your documentation, like this:
You can omit the text from future captures and just use the symbol.

i have opened the saved .jls file, i have added text annotation with colour & font settings changed. and saved the annotaions of file.
later when i open the annotated file the colour & font are appearing as default way what i have.
again when i am editting the settings of annotations it is restoring…
iam i doing in right way…
can the applied setting remain fixed in annotated file.

Hi @NGS - As of Apr 2025, the Joulescope UI used in JLS file open / view mode does NOT preserve Waveform widget styles between invocations. You are using the UI correctly, it simply does not support style preservation in this mode today. If you use the Joulescope UI in normal mode and keep the file open in any view, then it will preserve styling.
You should be able to hover your mouse over each of these items for a little better description, like this:
The general philosophy is that most people using the Joulescope UI never need to edit settings. Many of those settings are altered through the Waveform widget’s control widget. The UI makes the easy things easy and the hard things possible. Settings are one way the UI exposes these more advanced features.
